In 2022, I had the absolute pleasure of working on a series of live session videos with the brilliant Ani Sandwith. There wasn’t much of a brief other than she wanted some nice live tracks recorded and filmed along with some excerpts of interview footage too. I felt that close-up and simple was best and would really add to the raw and emotive performances in Ani’s songs.

We filmed and recorded in the bar at The Georgian Theatre on a super old piano, using a simple four mic setup. Two microphones for stereo piano, one for vocals and one for some nice room sounds. I then moved the two stereo piano mics round to mic up the acoustic guitar for the final track we recorded too. We did a few run through’s and I switched angles between two different takes of each piano track and manually synced them later to give the illusion of a handheld multi-cam setup. In reality it was just me.
